My standard comment is, 'If you don't want your kids to be like Bart Simpson, don't act like Homer Simpson.'
Education0We are apt to forget that children watch examples better than they listen to preaching.
Children & Childhood, Education0You want to be a good parent and you want to be a friend, and it's hard to be both. You have to balance it as well as you can.
Education, Parents0Don't handicap your children by making their lives easy!
Children & Childhood, Education0A child who is allowed to be disrespectful to his parents will not have true respect for anyone.
Education, Respect0One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.
Teachers, Education0It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.
Children & Childhood, Education0It is easier to exemplify values than teach them.
Education, Morality, Parents, Wise Quotes0Learning too soon our limitations, we never learn our powers.
Learning, Education, Talent0I should wish to see a world in which education aimed at mental freedom rather than at imprisoning the minds of the young in a rigid armour of dogma calculated to protect them through life against the shafts of impartial evidence. The world needs open hearts and open minds, and it is not through rigid systems, whether old or new, that these can be derived.
Education, Education0Every kid starts out as a natural-born scientist, and then we beat it out of them. A few trickle through the system with their wonder and enthusiasm for science intact.
Education, Science, Curiosity0Let me say for now that we knew once the Creation was broken, true fathering would be much more lacking than mothering. Don't misunderstand me, both are needed- but an emphasis on fathering is necessary because of the enormity of its absence.
Education, Parents0Children have got to be free to lead their own lives.
Children & Childhood, Education, Disney-Movies0I don't believe in playing down to children, either in life or in motion pictures. I didn't treat my own youngsters like fragile flowers, and I think no parent should. Children are people, and they should have to reach to learn about things, to understand things, just as adults have to reach if they want to grow in mental stature. Life is composed of lights and shadows, and we would be untruthful, insincere, and saccharine if we tried to pretend there were no shadows. Most things are good, and they are the strongest things; but there are evil things too, and you are not doing a child a favor by trying to shield him from reality. The important thing is to teach a child that good can always triumph over evil, and that is what our pictures attempt to do.
Children & Childhood, Education0You place too much importance... on the so-called purity of blood! You fail to recognize that it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be!
